13/08/2024 – The Dig_IT project has reached an exciting milestone with the completion of Task 5.6, led by LIBRA AI Technologies. This task focuses on the design and development of a cutting-edge web-based Decision Support System (DSS) that integrates advanced Business Intelligence (BI) and Real-Time Alerting capabilities.
Key Features of the DSS
The primary objective of Task 5.6 was to develop a sophisticated DSS that combines two groundbreaking approaches to transform mining operations:
Business Intelligence (BI) System:
- Integration with Multiple Data Sources: The BI system connects seamlessly with a wide range of data sources, offering comprehensive insights into productivity, waste control, safety, and pollutant monitoring.
- Interactive Dashboards: These dashboards turn complex datasets into actionable insights tailored to different user roles within the mining industry, from technicians to managers and operators.
Real-Time Alerting System:
- Proactive Risk Mitigation: This component continuously monitors real-time data to identify potential risks such as collisions, proximity to hazardous areas, and safety rule violations. The system provides timely alerts, enabling mining companies to take proactive measures to enhance safety.
Collaborative Efforts and End User Involvement
Task 5.6 saw collaboration from multiple partners including LIBRA AI Technologies, SCHNEIDER, CORE, ITAINNOVA, ICCS, Sintef, Brunel, SUBTERRA, and TAU, with TAU contributing to Digital Twin integration. The DSS was designed with input from all end users involved in Dig_IT operations, including Titania, Marini, Kemi, Hannukainen, and La Parrilla. Feedback from these end users has been crucial in shaping the system’s functionalities.
Supporting WP5 Objectives
The DSS is a pivotal tool in achieving the goals of Work Package 5 (WP5). By offering a comprehensive platform for monitoring and managing mining operations, the DSS advances the integration of smart technologies in the mining sector. Its interactive dashboards and AI-driven insights are crucial in enhancing operational efficiency and safety.
Current Progress and Future Developments
- DSS Setup and Demonstration: The DSS has been successfully set up and demonstrated to end users with the available data. This demonstration has provided valuable insights into the system’s capabilities and user interface.
- Data Integration: While integration efforts are ongoing, the DSS has already incorporated the Digital Twin of Fluid Dynamics from Marini for demonstration purposes. Additional data sources and applications are in the process of being integrated.
- End User Access: A significant milestone was achieved as end users have been granted access to the DSS. They are now able to interact with the system, experiment with its features, and provide feedback to refine its functionalities.
Deliverables and Tools Used
Currently, no formal deliverable has been submitted. The related deliverable, D5.6 Cloud/Web-Based Decision Support System, has been delayed due to dependencies on other tasks. However, progress continues, and the deliverable will be submitted once all dependencies are resolved. The DSS utilizes:
- Backend: Python for custom implementations.
- Frontend: JavaScript for creating a user-friendly web-based interface.
- Data Infrastructure: The system retrieves and visualizes data from the ICCS Data Warehouse, providing a seamless experience for users.
Looking Ahead
Task 5.6 has laid a strong foundation for a transformative DSS that will enhance mining operations through advanced analytics and real-time alerts. As we continue to refine the system and integrate additional data sources, we anticipate significant improvements in safety and operational efficiency across the Dig_IT mining operations.
Stay tuned for more updates as we progress towards the final phases of the project and deliver further innovations in mining technology.
